Perier, Casimir
(1777-1832)
   political figure
Casimir Perier, the son of claude perier, was born in Grenoble. Director of his father's bank and regent of the Bank of France, after 1817 he served a number of times as deputy in the National Assembly. Representing the liberal opposition, he took a position against the policies of the governments of jean-baptiste VILLÈLE and then jules de POLIGNAC, and supported louis-philippe during the revolution of 1830. President of the Chamber of Deputies and leader of the parti de la Résistance under the july monarchy, in 1831 he became leader of the cabinet and interior minister. With the hope of favoring the development of business, he followed a policy of repression toward the opposition and manifestations of social unrest (in particular, during the silk-workers' revolt in lyon, November-December 1831). He died of cholera, and his son and grandson took the name of casimir-perier.
